CHAMBERS DOMINATES RICHARDSON IN SENATE DISTRICT 35 FUNDRAISING RACE

Michelle Chambers Outraises Richardson by Nearly $150K in Latest Period, Enters Final Months of Campaign with More Than Double Richardson’s Cash on Hand
COMPTON, CA -- Senate District 35 Candidate Michelle Chambers reported raising $323,313 in the latest filing period (2/18-6/30) on Wednesday, nearly $150,000 more than disgraced former Congresswoman Laura Richardson, who raised just $174,386 — including contributions from big oil and tobacco companies. Chambers had $236,885 on hand as of the June 30 deadline, while Richardson reported just $89,626.

Richardson used nearly 25% of the money she raised in the period to pay herself — spending $56,000 to pay herself back for loans she made to the campaign. Notably, Richardson still reported $165,157 in outstanding debt — nearly double her cash on hand.

Chambers’ fundraising haul reflects the wave of momentum behind her campaign, as Richardson appears to be running out of steam. In just the last month, Chambers has secured a number of new endorsements, including support from civil rights and labor icon Dolores Huerta, IBEW Local 47, five grassroots Democratic clubs, and State Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Monique Limón. With greater resources, more endorsements, and strong support from the California Democratic Party and California Federation of Labor Unions, Chambers is the clear frontrunner in the race for Senate District 35.

Chambers released the following statement after filing her fundraising report:

"I am deeply humbled and energized by the overwhelming support our campaign has received. The generous contributions from my neighbors across Senate District 35, as well as labor unions and civil rights organizations, are a testament to the desire for positive change and effective leadership in our community. Together, we are building a movement focused on creating good-paying jobs and lowering costs for working families, building more affordable housing, protecting access to reproductive freedom, and ensuring that every family has access to quality healthcare."
